God is Not Fickle

The dictionary defines fickle as : marked by a lack of steadfastness, constancy, or stability : given to erratic changeableness : not constant or loyal in affections.  It amazes me the lack of loyalty that people have today.  We are fickle when it comes to our friends, marriages and jobs…but even scarier, today’s society is fickle when it comes to God…and we are teaching our children to be the same.

Many Christians today are not even sure what they believe.  They just follow a man or a group of people.  They think that just as long as they go to church, God is happy.  But God is expecting you to grow and mature and develop a relationship with Him.   In Ephesians  Paul is talking to Christians about maturing.  “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.”  He wants us to “grow up”  and become more like Him.  He wants us to be loyal to Him.

We must always be on guard!  Acts 20 warns this “Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.  So be on your guard!”  If you are already attending church and being fed God’s word, be very cautious of someone who tries to draw you away to another church.  Unless God is calling you to minister somewhere else, be loyal to your church, you were led there for a reason.  Don’t follow a person, follow God.

Our feelings are unstable and unpredictable.  Therefore, instead of following our feelings, we need to follow God, for He is the only source of true stability. Our motto needs to be like the old hymn…"On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand."
God is unchanging and constant.  He is not fickle.  And he expects his children to be like Him.  Be loyal. Be stable. Be committed.
